Rock climbing starts with more individuals entering the sport and springing equipment to satisfy the requirement. Rock climbing has struck fresh heights here as more individuals enter the physically difficult sport due to the increasing amount of commercial climbing equipment. We used and abused our running shoes and tried to go to the gym more times than we could count–but you know it’s time to try something new when those fitness sessions don’t work out. If you want to burn fat and get that lean physique, climbing rock could be the solution to your prayers for dream bodies. From Augmented Reality (AR) climbing walls to transparent ones that will have you climbing face-to-face with your friends and climbing gyms with free yoga classes, here are some rock climbing Singapore places to check out.
1. Clip ‘N Climb
At Clip ‘ n Climb, which is not your run-of – the-mill indoor climbing joint, quirkily designed walls awash in bright colours greet climbers. In the 260 sq. m facility there are 17 wall designs, such as the Jack and The Beanstalk snaking beanstalk from the fairy tale, a lightning bolt and one inspired by Morse code. Some of the climbing structures are not walls— one in the shape of a skinny tree trunk, while another looks like a twisted DNA strand made of colourful blocks. New Zealand’s Clip’ n Climb is a particularly fun introduction to climbing for kids and beginners as an uncomplicated auto-belay system (which eliminates the need for a human belayer) is used for every 8 m high wall. Before they are good to go, climbers only need to undergo a briefing on safety. For climbers, there is no minimum age, they only have to weigh between 10 and 150 kg. Seasoned climbers can look for more difficult walls or try a harder route. It is located at 03-03 Our Tampines Hub, 51 Tampines Avenue 4. Rock Climbing.
2. Kinetics Climbing
Kinetics Climbing is a cosy bouldering space nestled in a shophouse on Serangoon Road. Most of the 2,000 sq. ft space is dedicated to bouldering walls ranging from beginner to advance in difficulty. The routes are changed twice a month in order to keep things fresh. There is also a small area for climbing and training on top-rope. CEO Jay Koh likes sprint bouldering and top-rope or lead rock climbing to a marathon. “Bouldering builds power and strength, while top-rope builds stamina. They are complementing one another. Nobody can try bouldering without the need for certification. Children must be at least four years of age. As well as private coaching sessions and Singapore National Climbing Standards Level 1 certification courses, there are beginner’s courses on bouldering for those who want a more structured understanding of the sport.
3. Safra Adventure Sports Center
The Safra Adventure Sports Center, home to a wide variety of sports, is one of the few places with outdoor climbing walls. Three types of climbing walls that are 15 m, 18 m and 25 m high can be picked from climbers who prefer to scale outdoors. If it gets too hot, there’s also a two-storey, 100 sq. m indoor bouldering gym. The scale of the outdoor walls requires a Singapore National Climbing Standards Level 1 certification. The 15m-high Canopy Sky Walk nestled among the greenery, which is open from Fridays to Sundays, can be tried by those who are not qualified. Or take a break from climbing and see other activities in the Safra clubhouse, such as laser and archery tag. It is located at Safra Yishun, 60 Yishun Avenue 4. Rock Climbing.
4. Onsight Climbing
Look forward to seeing hardcore climbers at this 7,000 sq. ft indoor climbing gym dedicated to those with at least a Singapore National Climbing Standards Level 1 certification and hungry for tougher challenges. All kinds of indoor climbing are available here: top rope on walls of 8 m, lead on walls of 14 m and speed on walls of 15 m which is a race against the clock to the top and mostly used by professional climbers. For experienced climbers, the highlight is the 11 lanes in the lead-wall zone, where only those with Level 2 certification can enter. There is also a significant bouldering room, ranging from amateur to advance in difficulty. In a training zone equipped with pull-up bars, wooden rungs to improve strength in the fingers and arms as well as finger boards to work on gripping, climbers can condition their bodies. Housed in the former Badminton Hall of Singapore, the space has tiered decks of the stadium for climbers to rest and watch others. Rock Climbing.
5. Climb Central
If you visited Kallang Wave Mall, which is located in the Singapore Sports Hub, you’d probably have seen the towering walls of Climb Central. The air-conditioned venue of the facility is a big draw for both seasoned climbers and beginners, given the sweltering weather in Singapore. The 1,000 sq. m space is perfect for newbies to try climbing as there is no need for certification to scale more than half of the 46 lanes. Thanks to an easy-to-use set-up where the belay device is installed on the floor, they can climb after a 15-minute safety briefing. Children must be at least five years old, weigh more than 20 kg, weigh more than 1.1 m. For those who prefer to go solo, there are 13 auto-belay lanes. The height of the walls ranges from 4 m to 12 m to top rope for bouldering and 16 m to lead walls. For children and adults, there are more concise introductory programs interested in finding out more about climbing techniques and safety systems. It is located at B1-01 Kallang Wave Mall, 1 Stadium Place. Rock Climbing.
