Cameron Highlands is the most popular of the highland retreats in Malaysia. Located at almost 2,000 meters at its highest point, Cameron offers visitors a moderate climate with daytime temperatures averaging around 25°C and 18°C at night. This makes the environment conducive for growing continental plants, fruits and vegetables while providing a cool escape for city-dwellers. The township of Cameron is itself divided into Tanah Rata, Brinchang and Ringlet.

Just some of these include unusual attractions such as rose and lavender gardens, and one of the big draws here is the chance to go strawberry picking. The Cameron Highlands span some 71,000 hectares of land, so there is a huge amount to do here, especially if you are a nature lover and fancy jungle trekking or scaling the most famous peak in the area called Mount Brinchang.

Cameron Highlands was found in 1885 by William Cameron which was eventually have the area named in his honour. William Cameron, a British colonial government surveyor, accompanied by his companion, Kulop Riau, went on a mapping expedition of the Titiwangsa Range. In the expedition, they used elephants to carry them for months in a journey to explore the Titiwangsa Range. They started their adventurous tour from Tanjung Rambutan and started to trace the Kinta River to its origin. They then went through the Titiwangsa Range in a south – easterly direction.

BOH Tea Plantation (Sungei Palas)

The historical Boh Tea Plantation was first established in 1929 during the British colonial occupation of Malaya (now Malaysia). During this Great Depression period, businessman John Archibald Russel saw a recurring high demand for tea both domestically and in Great Britain. This led to him opening the Boh Tea Plantation in Cameron Highlands and soon, the iconic landmark will be celebrating its 90th birthday. The plantation itself is divided into two sections: one is situated before Tanah Rata at a lower altitude while the other is further up and closer to the Brinchang peak, known as the Sungei Palas Plantation. Be sure to explore both sections of the plantation to experience the full package of the exploration experience.
