According to Johor Tourism, Women Development, Family and Community Committee chairman, Liow Cai Tung understanding, the reason of the closure of Hello Kitty Town Johor Bahru was that the number of tourists visiting in recent years did not meet the expected target, and in facing of losses, they had to close their business.

History of Sanrio Hello Kitty Town Johor Bahru
This is the first Sanrio Hello Kitty Town Theme Park outside of Japan. It is opened on 2012 and is located at the Puteri Harbor Indoor Family Park which is in the Nusajaya district near Legoland.
This 60,000 square feet indoor facility is one of the 5 flagship zones in Iskandar Malaysia.
