Good News to Hiking Lovers! Gunung Pulai Permit Postponed.

Starting from 1 May 2019, it is saying that, for those who are going to hike up to the first part of Gunung Pulai Johor Bahru area and above, they must apply permit with Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Johor. In addition, applicants will need to pay an amount of RM150 for the permit. However, now, this rule has been postponed until further notice.

Extended Until New Plan Coming Out

This announcement is made by Johor Exco For International Trade, Investment & Utilities, Jimmy Puah. After discussed with the head of Forest Bureau Johor, and both agreed that the charging measures will be extended until the Forest Bureau manage to come out with a new plan.

He said, the Forest Bureau needs estimate 1 month to submit the report. And, at that time, the authorities will announce the details in the newspaper, including the fees charged.

Besides that, he added, at this moment, there are only 4 Forest Bureau at Johor that can handle mountaineering procedures, and this cause that hikers for Gunung Pulai Johor Bahru must apply at Johor Bahru. Therefore, the authorities must make changes to provide convenience for hikers, so that they can pay directly at the entrance or Pay via the internet.

Apply Permit is to Ensure Hikers’ Safety

He pointed out that according to the regulations, hikers must apply for a permit. This action is to ensure that the authorities have the identity of the hikers. In case of accident or a lost incident, the authorities can respond immediately. New Fees And Charges

Also, he added, the authorities will also start to discuss whether to set up flexible fees. For example, free for senior citizens, and charge more for foreign tourists.

Some public suggested that RM3 for parking fee, and RM2 for mountaineering fee. So the total will only be RM5.

Besides that, the security guard of the Gunung Pulai Johor Bahru, pointed out that the Pulai Mountain was open to the public from 8 am to 6 pm from Tuesday to Sunday.

He advised the public to follow the time of climbing, not to climb during the closing period, or to enter from other mountain roads to avoid unnecessary accidents.

He said that the authorities require the hikers to apply for a permit, which will facilitate him to grasp the identity of the lost person at the first time, and then the search and rescue team (SAR) can start the operation immediately.
