Due to the fact that the close distance of JB to Singapore, crossing the border from Singapore to Malaysia is very accessible. Johor Bahru is the best access to across the border from Singapore is Malaysia. Singaporeans usually will cross over via causeway to Johor Bahru for food, shopping, and for catching their onward transports or RTS to places further up in Malaysia such as Putrajaya, Malacca and etc.
Aside of that fact, Singapore also become one of the popular country for Malaysian to go works especially for Johorean because of the close distance. With the higher different of money currency will surely be a reason why crossborder bridge which are causeway and second link having a huge congestion everyday and everytime peak hour or peak season.
Therefore government have come up with jb to singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) project to reduce the congestion in causeway and second link during peak time.
Rapid Transit System is a plan system that would connect Woodlands, Singapore and Johor Bahru crossing the Straits of Johor.
The rapid transit system will have two stations, with the Singapore terminal located at Woodlands North MRT/RTS station and the Malaysia terminal located at Bukit Chagar RTS station. Both stations will have Singaporean and Malaysian customs, immigration and quarantine facilities.
The RTS Link is expected to replace the railway line and shuttle train services between JB Sentral and Woodlands Train Checkpoint.
However, this project have postponed for about several year due to some issue and the cost is quite high.
Currently, after a couple of years been postponed, Jb to Singapore RTS project will be proceed announced by the government on October 2019.
This project will start to proceed but with some changes in terms of project structure, scope and specification and cost. The cost need to be optimized especially for construction and rail systems in order to make sure the project more financially reliable.
